General Knowledge

What is Akshata?

Akshat or Akshatha or Akshathai is the rice grain that is offered to the Divine as a symbol of never-ending abundance. Akshat in Sanskrit means 'that which cannot be destroyed'. Akshat/Rice Grains is one of the primary things without which the worship of the deity cannot be accomplished properly.

What's the significance?

The auspicious akshata are invitations to Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya. All these akshatas were used for Ram lalla’s pooja. And therefore, they represent blessings from Sri Prabhu Ram himself.

What should be done with the received akshata?

These Akshata are very sacred and the best place to keep them would be a deity's shrine in Pooja room in your home. While keeping them there, make a resolution, "We, the family, will soon visit the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya” and chant Taraka Mantra  ‘Sri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Rama’ for 108 times every day till Jan 22nd.

How do we celebrate it on Jan 22nd?

On January 22nd, the Pranapratista ceremony will take place at 12:20 PM IST.  It's highly recommended that you take a bath early and tune in to watch this dream come true ceremony live. You can also participate in any public ceremonies organised in local temples or create your own sacred space at home by performing Pooja and engaging in Ram nama smaran (chanting the name of Lord Ram).

Take teertha prasada after 7:30 AM UK Time and wear the auspicious akshata on your head as blessings from Sri Ram. You can even save some akshata for special occasions like weddings and such.

How can I mark the occasion?

Let's celebrate like its Diwali! Decorate your homes, create beautiful rangolis, and light up 5 Diyas (traditional oil lamps) in the evening to show our devotion and dedication to prabhu Sri Ram. It's a wonderful way to immerse ourselves in the spirit of the occasion.
